A new coffee table

Let me introduce you to the new arrival in our home: a coffee table.

I’m so excited about it!

I designed the table and our friend Phil – who does furniture restoration – made it for us.

We chose the wood about a month ago. P and I wanted something with an interesting texture – knots, burr…wood with personality – so we went to Cox’s Yard (an architectural salvage  yard in Moreton in Marsh) in search of some reclaimed wood.

We couldn’t find any to our liking, however we found  some off-cuts of oak floor boards that had been discarded because of their imperfections: exactly what we were looking for!

It took some time to decide which boards would fit the design, since they were in different sizes and width, but I’m extremely pleased with the result.

Isn’t it beautiful?

Now that we have a coffee table, my next hunt is for a rug in white or cream.

If this were my house, I would replace the carpet (my least favourite flooring option!) with white floor boards and choose a colourful rug, but since I’m renting….I’ll go for a white rug :)

So what do you think of my new coffee table?

It’s awesome! I love it in its simplicity and elegance, both. VERY NICE!
Isn’t it great when bespoke pieces come out exactly as you hoped and give you so much pleasure? Enjoy!

It is fabulous! Love it.

Along with the rug, one of my B&W prints hung above would look good too :D

Thank you all, I’m glad you like my coffee table too :)
@ Sue – I have lots of art on my wish list…just not the budget at the moment, alas :(
Soon, hopefully!

Very nice–love it. I love the simplicity and the wood and everything. Looks like support is hidden somewhere…I’m imagining you must have a crossbar in there somewhere. Or maybe that’s it along the side, underneath.

I love building things and having them turn out so nice so I’m sure you must be thrilled :)

Hi Leah, there are wooden bars along the side, underneath the table top, and under each corner, to reinforce the table and make it stable.
And yes, I am thrilled!

It is so pretty! It’s a little zen, but not too boring. I would say it’s perfect!

Thanks Anna :)

I love how much thought went into this. Very Beautiful. I fail to look at things like a coffee table beyond it just being a coffee table. This made me take a second look at my own!

Such a beautiful and elegant piece!
